Inclusive Living Sheffield Ltd

Inclusive Living Sheffield (ILS) is a not-for-profit limited company, and registered charity, run by disabled people living in Sheffield. We have direct experience of the many different types of disabling barriers which people can face. We work in partnership with public bodies, private sector employers and the voluntary sector to help improve the lives of disabled people.

Over 10% of Sheffield's population is disabled - more than you'd think! We have a vision of a society where everyone is included so we can all benefit from, and contribute to, the success of our city.

Successful Office Move !!

On Thursday 7th June 2007 ILS relocated to the new Voluntary Action Sheffield offices on Rockingham Lane (just off West Street).  Our new modern office is situated on the third floor of "The Circle".  The Circle building has excellent facilities and ILS has already hosted several meetings and events in the ground floor conference rooms.  The building offers easy access and disabled parking is available.  (Parking must be booked in advance by telephoning Voluntary Action Sheffield reception).

Wanted !!  Volunteers for New Pacesetters Project

ILS is currently recruiting disabled people with experience of providing advocacy or information services.  This is a new innovative project and a great volunteering opportunity.  A team of volunteers is required to run and manage the advocacy/information service with one acting as Project Leader.

Tasks will include:  ansewring telephone calls, responding to e.mails and correspondence, meeting people who use the service, developing fact sheets and website updates.

Wanted !!  Volunteers for Partners for Inclusion

Partners for Inclusion exists as a planning partnership within the Sheffield First partnership structure to promote discussions about improving services and experiences of disabled people who may have physical, sensory or cognitive disability.  It is a partnership with equality at the heart of its structure, with disabled people having equal numbers of places alongside statutory and voluntary sector members, to form the Core Executive Group.

We have vacancies for disabled members to joine the Pf I Core Executive, and are looking for people who meet the following criteria:

• Meet the time commitment for members - maximum of 2 meetings per month
• Contribute to Core Executive meetings
• Understand how barriers in society can cause disability
• Propose how services can change to help to reduce barriers
• Communicate effectively both with other Core Executive members and with a wide range of organisations and people with physical, cognitive and sensory impairment
• Network with service users and providers to seek openions and views
• Work constructively and objectively to contribute to progress
• Act as an ambassador for the PfI partnership
• Participate in broader PfI partnership network events

People wishing to apply to be members of the P f I Core Executive should make a written application via Inclusive Living Sheffield.  The letter should demonstrate how you meet the above criteria and what skills and attributes you would bring to the Core Executive.  Those who are interested, but fell they do not fully meet the criteria, should still contact P f I as it may be possible to provide development and mentoring.  A panel of existing members of the Core Executive will consider applications.

Renumeration will only be paid to disabled people who are appointed members of the Core Executive and who are not representing their employing oranisation.  All travel expenses will be met following receipt of appropriate claim forms and receipts, plus a fee per meeting.
