the private, public and voluntary sectors. We also work with schools,
social services and Primary Care Trusts to enable disabled people to take
control of their own lives.

What is 'disability equality training'?
Disability equality training (or 'DET' for short) focuses on the barriers to services that disabled people can face - whether as customers, employees, service users or clients. It promotes accessibility to services and employment, highlighting where disabled people may be being discriminated against.
Why does my organisation need DET?
Because it makes sense!
All organisations need to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) - this is to make sure you don't create disabling barriers for people with impairments. These barriers could be physical (such as steps) or organisational (such as not employing disabled people because of inaccurate stereotypes).
Under the DDA, all organisations are required to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people can access services. This could mean providing British Sign Language interpreters, or documents in alternative formats. There are many types of adjustments which organisations may now have a duty to make.
This is where ILS comes in. We can guide you through the minefield of legislation and give you some ideas of the types of adjustments your organisation may need to make. Your disabled customers will appreciate the efforts you've made to address their particular needs - and the word soon spreads!
We also work with service users themselves, challenging outdated stereotypes and empowering them to make difficult decisions in their everyday lives.
What does DET involve?
We'll usually anaylse your precise needs so that we can tailor our training specifically to your organisation. We'll then deliver the training - to which ever level of staff is appropriate for your organisation - and evaluate the results for you.
But we also offer some 'bite sized' courses which give you an introduction to what you need to do. These courses will cost less than a bespoke course - both in time and money.

What is the Breaking Barriers Series?
Disability Equality Training: Breaking Barriers Series
ILS is able to offer direct delivery training, written materials, and electronic solutions to meet your disability equality training needs. The series includes:
- "What's the Problem? Provision of Goods and Services to Disabled People": a DVD that could be included in your induction programme.
- "What's the Problem? Employment and Disabled People": a DVD that could be used by managers and HR departments.
- WebEQuality: an eLearning programme that is user-friendly, can be used by individuals or small groups and meets differences in the pace of learning.
We can provide written training materials, tailored to meet your needs; and direct training for your trainers, or your staff.
What is Webequality?
WebEQuality combines Accessibility (making a website easy to use for the widest possible range of people), and Interactivity (the key to a good training site).
Why should I use WebEQuality?
- Avoiding and tackling discrimination is both desirable and necessary in an inclusive society
- Often people act in ways that are discriminatory without realising it because they do not know what is expected of them

How is the course structured?
The course is structured to be user friendly' and meet differences in the pace of learning.
It can be completed in a single two and a half hour session; or as many sessions as you want, during a 21 day period from the date you start training.
